In  1956 Indian  Parliament  has  passed  the  Act  to  constitute Khadi & Village Industries   Commission.     Accordingly  in  the  national  level   All  India   Khadi & V.I  Commission  was  organized  and the Govt. of  Kerala has  constituted     Kerala Khadi & V.I Board . Payyanur Firka   Gramodaya   Khadi   Sangham   is  working under the control and financial assistance  from All India Khadi & V.I.Commission and Kerala & V.I.Board.. Sangham started its activity by producing “ Kisan Charkha “ to supply needy persons to strengthen the khadi movement. Step by step the institution concentrate on spinning on improved charkhas and then started khadi weaving.

              The  main purpose of this institution was to  serve the people of   Payyanur and  surrounding  places  in the field of Khadi and Village   Industries,   thereby enlighing the common village folk about Gandhian Principles. In the year 1994-95 our institution has been selected for the award by Kerala khadi and VI federation ,Cochin.

              The name derived from payyan {subrahamanyan} and oru {land} meaning the land subrahamanya.It is so called situated the famous temple of lord subrahmanya includes in the three famous temples of subrahmanya in the Kannur district.Payyannur shines as the land of subrahmanya swamy in the minds of the devotees because presents of the subrahmanya swamy temple called Dakshina Pazhani.The head office of payyannur firkha gramodaya khadi Sangham is very near to the temple about 250 meters distant. Uliyathu kadavu is well known in history as a result of the epic salt sathyagraha which is 1.5 km away from the head office.
